ASML grows workforce while cutting temporary employment
In 2019, ASML hired 2,219 new employees, bringing its total workforce to 24,900 FTE. The number of payroll employees increased with 3,175 to 23,219. On the contrary, the number of temporary employees almost halved to 1,681, after steadily increasing over the previous three years. The attrition rate went down to 4.3 percent in 2019, versus 4.7 percent in 2018. As a measure to increase employee engagement, the Veldhoven company is offering more fixed contracts to new hires as well as temporary people, which explains the decrease in temporary employees.
CEO Peter Wennink states bringing onboard new colleagues has been a significant challenge. “We’ve made improvements to our labor market program, recruitment strategy, onboarding processes and employee engagement programs, and these efforts are paying off.” Still, employees also observe inefficiencies, which may be a result of ASML’s rapid growth. Wennink: “We recognize that a fast-growing company like ours needs to constantly work on keeping its organization simple and transparent.”
