CATL claims million-mile car battery

Chinese car battery manufacturing CATL is ready to produce a battery that lasts 2 million kilometers (1.24 million miles) and 16 years, the company’s chairman Zeng Yuqun told Bloomberg. Typically, carmakers offer warranties up to about 250,000 miles or 8 years. The new battery would cost about 10 percent more than the batteries now inside electric vehicles. “If someone places an order, we’re ready to produce,” said Zeng, without disclosing if contracts for the product have been signed. CATL’s customers include BMW, Tesla, Toyota and Volkswagen.
