Chip sales down 8 percent in 2023

Global semiconductor industry sales totaled 527 billion dollars in 2023, a decrease of 8.2 percent compared to the 2022 record total of 574 billion dollars, according to data compiled by the WSTS and published by SIA. Sales picked up during the second half of 2023. Fourth-quarter sales were up 11.6 percent YoY and 8.4 percent sequentially.

“Global semiconductor sales were sluggish early in 2023 but rebounded strongly during the second half of the year, and double-digit market growth is projected for 2024,” says SIA CEO John Neuffer. “With chips playing a larger and more important role in countless products the world depends on, the long-term outlook for the semiconductor market is extremely strong.”
