Dens finds partner to roll out ‘green generator’

Startup Dens from Helmond will be working with fuel storage specialist Hamer to roll out its formic acid-powered generators. Hamer will be assisting Dens to engineer a maintenance-friendly system. The partner from Apeldoorn also has an international service network that will be deployed for servicing the generators once they’re out in the field.

Dens has its roots in research carried out at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE), which in 2015 delivered a proof-of-concept electricity generator that runs on formic acid (link in Dutch). It works by converting the sustainably-produced organic liquid to hydrogen, which is fed to a fuel cell. The technology was picked up by TUE student team Fast for scale-up, resulting in the founding of Dens in 2018.

“Now that our product is almost ready to hit the market, we want to accelerate. Together with Hamer, which has a lot of technical expertise and a large network, we can”, says Dens CEO Max Aerts.
