Eindhoven-based Effect Photonics has secured a 5 million euro investment from Photondelta. The funds will be used for accelerating development of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical chips for 5G and data center applications as well as for scaling up the business.

“At Effect Photonics, we integrate all of the optical functions into a single chip and combine it with low-cost, non-hermetic packaging and automatic tuning. Thus, DWDM – the proven solution for core and metro networks – is now simple, cost-effective and scalable enough for 5G infrastructure roll-outs around the world. This funding allows us to really push forward our next-generation products to bring even more powerful optical systems to the edges of the network,” comments Effect Photonics CTO Boudewijn Docter.

Photondelta is investing in key players to boost the Dutch integrated photonics ecosystem. Previously, it funded photonics foundry Smart Photonics and presumably more companies will follow.
