Eindhoven’s Ventinova added to government list of ventilator suppliers
Ventinova Medical will supply dozens of its respiratory devices to the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). The Eindhoven company’s Evone system may be well suited for patients in critical condition. It’s based on controlled exhalation instead of traditional passive deflation of the lungs. This supposedly causes less strain on the respiratory organs and allows for more efficient ventilation. Also, patients can be treated in the supine position and don’t have to be turned over regularly.
According to Ventinova, preliminary tests show promising results for severe cases of COVID-19. Lung damage as a result of ventilation is minimized and recovery is faster. Especially for patients in critical condition, the Evone can save lives. The device has been on the market since 2018.
The Dutch government has ordered about 2,000 respirators, around half of which from Philips. The dozens of devices supplied by Ventinova will be distributed over hospitals in the Netherlands in the upcoming period.
