Industrial action at Ampleon in Nijmegen
This week on Tuesday, 25 June, personnel at Ampleon in Nijmegen is laying down its work for two hours to enforce a better collective labor agreement. After six rounds of negotiations had failed to yield a reasonable result and the Chinese-Dutch RF power specialist had let an ultimatum expire, more than 100 of the 250 employees gathered at the company gate at Noviotech Campus last Thursday to protest. With their management still not budging, they now feel compelled to resort to stronger measures.
Arjan Baselmans of the trade union CNV suspects a reorganization to be imminent at Ampleon. “If it’s up to management, the severance pay will be considerably reduced. They’re probably brooding on one or more rounds of layoffs, because why else would you want to lower the compensation?”
According to Baselmans, it seems like a Chinese wall has been erected between the company and its personnel. “The employees mainly want to keep their current social plan. For that, they’re even willing to postpone their inflation correction until 1 January 2025. This clearly shows their reasonableness. Ampleon, however, remains deaf to their wishes. It’s saying a lot that they’re willing to lay down their work. Two hours for now, but maybe longer if the employer still refuses to budge. The employees prefer not to take action, but if they have to, they will.”
