KU Leuven and TUE join forces on semiconductor training and research
KU Leuven and Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) are embarking on a partnership to improve semiconductor-related education and research. Under an agreement signed Monday, the universities will invest at least four million euros to establish joint master tracks, jointly funded PhD students and a seed fund to support new research paths. In addition, a Summer School will be organized each year, exclusively for 100 top students worldwide in areas relevant to semicon.
“Europe faces a considerable challenge in gaining a better position in the global semiconductor sector. This is crucial to our strategic autonomy, to our earning power and to the solving of societal challenges. This collaboration is a highly important step in that regard,” says TUE rector Silvia Lenaerts.
Topics included in the agreement include AI, mechatronics, software development, materials science, plasma physics, quantum technology, semiconductor engineering and high-tech systems engineering. ASML, Imec and possibly other partners will be closely involved in the collaboration.
