Lightyear has signed a follow-up agreement with Leaseplan to reserve 5,000 cars of its second model, which is scheduled to go into production by 2024/2025. The car-as-a-service company had already committed to making the first model available through its European network. The Lightyear One will start production in 2022. The Lightyear Two builds on the technology developed for the first model and will be globally available at a more accessible starting price point of 30,000 euros.

Lex Hoefsloot, founder and CEO at Lightyear, notes: “Leaseplan has been a very strong partner for us since 2018. This announcement is a testament to their commitment to our product vision to make clean mobility accessible for everyone.” Tex Gunning, CEO of Leaseplan: “Together with Lightyear, we’ll deliver the world’s first solar-powered car subscription. We look forward to joining forces and putting drivers behind the wheel of some of the cleanest, most innovative EVs ever produced.”
