ASML is poised to surrender its lead in the semiconductor equipment market this year, according to The Information Network (TIN). The Dutch lithography equipment manufacturer had the largest share of the total market for the past two years. This year, its share will drop only slightly, from 16.9 percent in 2019 to 16.8 percent in 2020, but Applied Materials will increase its share from 15.9 percent to 18.8 percent. ASML’s lackluster Q1 2020, when quarter-on-quarter revenue growth decreased 31 percent, was largely responsible for the company losing market share to Applied Materials for 2020, writes TIN president Robert Castellano.
