A branch of Huawei in Belgium has been blacklisted by American authorities, reports L’Echo (link in French). According to the Belgian daily, the US Department of Commerce drafted a list of 68 companies connected to the Chinese telecom company, which Washington hit with sanctions last week. Ghent-based Huawei Technologies Research & Development is one of the names on that list.

Huawei Technologies Research & Development started its life as an Imec spin-off, Caliopa, founded in 2010 to commercialize transceiver technology based on silicon photonics. Huawei bought the company in 2013 and expanded its activities a year later (links in Dutch). It reported sales of 17 million euros in 2017.
