Live video technology company EVS Broadcast Equipment from Liège is absorbing Gilze-based media network infrastructure specialist Axon Digital Design. The deal amounts to 10.5 million euros, plus an earn-out of 2.5 million euros contingent on fulfilling certain conditions. According to EVS, the acquisition will position it as the only technology company able to provide a comprehensive modern media infrastructure solution.

EVS offers digital live broadcast production systems, including technology for showing (slow-motion) replays at sports events. It considers Axon’s hardware (link in Dutch) and software portfolio of broadcast network solutions to be highly complementary, especially considering its ambition to move towards IP-based media production.

“In Axon, we’ve found an ideal partner. Its products match our vision of a centralized control model with distributed scalable resources. The company’s in-house expertise in FPGA and broadcast infrastructure, as well as other operational models, perfectly complement our research and development processes,” explains EVS SVP Benoit Quirynen. Axon CEO Michiel van Duijvendijk added: “This deal offers a major growth opportunity for both businesses, bringing together two innovative and proven product portfolios to form a unique end-to-end offering.”

Apart from its headquarters in Gilze, Axon has a development center in the UK. The company employs 80 people and generated revenues of 17.5 million euros last year.
