The lawsuits Globalfoundries filed against TSMC may be another factor hindering recovery in the semiconductor industry, market watcher Dan Hutcheson of VLSI Research told EE Times. The looming possibility of import bans adds to uncertainties stemming from the US-China trade war. There are also tensions between South Korea and Japan, causing delayed shipments of crucial semiconductor materials. Together, this may push a recovery of the IC market further out to beyond 2020. Forecasters predict a high-single to double-digit contraction this year.
