Monthly global semiconductor sales again fell well short of last year’s, according to data compiled by the WSTS. Worldwide sales in May were 33.1 billion dollars, down 14.6 percent from May 2018. Year on year, monthly sales have been down for five months in a row. On a month-to-month basis, however, the May number represent a modest increase (1.9 percent) for the first time in seven months. The WSTS is forecasting a 12.1 percent contraction of the semiconductor market this year, followed by a 5.4 percent recovery in 2020.
