Samsung has reportedly suspended orders for ICs and electronic components. According to several Asian media outlets, the Korean electronics chaebol has asked suppliers to suspend or reduce part orders in reaction to bloated inventory levels. Samsung is requesting fewer chips and other components for products in several device categories, including smartphones, TVs and home appliances.
Concerns over global inflation levels have fueled worries over a semiconductor industry downturn. According to recent market research by Omdia, the chip market has indeed plateaued in Q1 after five consecutive quarters of record revenue. So far, only Future Horizon’s Malcolm Penn has outright predicted a hefty downturn, however. IC Insights said that this year, at least, we’ll still see low double-digit growth.
