Solar panels enhanced with yield optimization technology developed by Eindhoven-based Taylor are now commercially available. The startup’s Cell String Optimizers (CSOs) limit the impact of shading or age-related performance loss of solar panels and prevent formation of hotspots. Additionally, Taylor’s system shuts down solar panels when overheating is detected.
Because of the way cells are organized in a panel – in so-called strings – a single cell negatively affects the performance of all cells it’s connected to. Taylor’s technology, originally developed at Eindhoven University of Technology, addresses this issue, raising power by up to 20 percent. The CSOs are fully integrated in the panels, unlike existing solutions, which are usually fitted during roof-top installation.
