After several years of cutbacks and layoffs, public research organization TNO is growing again. Revenue over 2018 grew 4.7 percent to 483 million euros, mainly as a result of increased government funds and the inclusion of solar research institute ECN in the TNO organization. The spin-out of the Functional Ingredients research group negated this increase somewhat. Operationally, TNO generated a profit of 4.9 million euros, though net income amounted to just about break-even. The number of employees expanded from 2907 in 2017 to 3265 last year.
