Only one top-15 semiconductor company managed to do better in the first half of this year than in the first half of last year, an outline compiled by IC Insights shows. Sony had 13 percent more sales H1-2019/H1-2018, while on average, sales were down 18 percent. Memory makers took the biggest hits, registering declines of at least 33 percent. By comparison, European semiconductor firms fared much better with drops no bigger than 5 percent. Intel’s sales barely budged, allowing it to recapture the number 1 spot from Samsung.
