TSMC is expected to take over the top spot in the 3Q22 semiconductor company sales ranking for the first time ever. The Taiwanese foundry will surpass Samsung as well as Intel, according to data published by IC Insights. The company’s rapid rise to the top is the result of continued high demand for logic, while the memory market has entered a free fall. This is hitting Samsung particularly hard, with sales dropping 20 percent this quarter. TSMC was ranked as the third largest semiconductor supplier in the world in 2021 and had sales that were 31 percent less than Samsung’s.
