US ramps up semiconductor export restrictions to China

Next month, the Biden administration will put new restrictions into effect on shipments of chips and chip-making equipment, according to a Reuters report. The new regulations will require semiconductor manufacturing equipment makers Applied Materials, KLA and Lam Research to obtain a license before supplying Chinese companies with sub-14nm gear. AMD, Nvidia and possibly other companies will similarly need permission to ship certain advanced AI chips. Products that contain these devices, such as data center servers, are also subject to the restrictions.
