Verhaert has received a research grant from the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Vlaio) to develop state-of-the-art robot technology driven by artificial intelligence. The product innovation service provider from Kruibeke plans to launch a new technology platform for Flemish companies to accelerate the development of AI-driven robot systems. The grant amount hasn’t been disclosed.
Initially, Verhaert will be working on a demonstrator for neurosurgical procedures. Partners include the Brussels University Hospital and Imec. Using MRI and CT images, the aim is to increase the precision of the robot to less than 1 mm, which is necessary to enable robotic surgery that cannot be performed with current technology. The new technology is to be widely applicable in various medical sectors and beyond.
