Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is engaging in a close collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE), Utrecht University and the University Medical Center Utrecht. The boards are planning on signing a collaboration agreement around the turn of the year. Each partner will contribute 1.5 million each year for four years, making a total investment of 24 million euros.

The universities have decided on three topics on which they want to collaborate intensively as an experiment: artificial intelligence, molecular life sciences and education. The TUE, who is setting a hundred million aside for the Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence System Institute (EAISI), has got extended fundamental experience in the field of AI. WUR has application knowledge in agri-food and environmental sciences. Utrecht is focused on health and chemistry.

In their education, the partners want to collaborate on data science. Their individual programs should become more accessible for each other’s students. They’re also looking into double appointments, in which employees spend a few days a week at one of the partner locations. In March 2020, there’s a meeting planned in which the scientists will explore their collaboration in more detail.
