Another subsidy round for chipmakers in Germany
The German government has earmarked another 2 billion euros in subsidies for domestic chip ventures that “significantly exceed the current state of the art,” a spokesperson from the German economy ministry told Bloomberg. The exact amount hasn’t been confirmed, except that it’s “low single digit.” So far, Germany has put up billions in co-funding for an Infineon power fab and the ESMC automotive joint venture. Plans for an Intel and a Wolfspeed plant have been put on hold and withdrawn, respectively. The new subsidy round targets smaller initiatives, as it’s meant to support 10-15 projects.
