Swedish hygienic towel experts absorb Novioscan bladder monitor
Swedish health and hygiene company Essity has acquired Novioscan. The Nijmegen-based startup has created a wearable ultrasound device that measures bladder content. The acquisition is valued at 6.5 million euros. Essity is the leading global player in incontinence products with its Tena brand.
The Novioscan Sens-U device gauges bladder volume and sends a notification to the user when it exceeds a certain level. In doing so, it could be used for incontinence training. The Sens-U Kids is already available, with a version for adults under development. Novioscan will keep its name and all ten employees will remain on board.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Essity has about 46,000 employees. Net sales in 2019 amounted to approximately 12.2 billion euros. Its other brands include Demakup, Edet, Libresse, Lotus and Tempo.
