Capital equipment manufacturer Amtech Systems is looking to divest its solar business, which includes Dutch subsidiaries Solaytec and Tempress. ‘Significant investment is required to effectively compete in the changing solar industry. We therefore conclude Tempress and Solaytec would be better positioned to capitalize on opportunities in the solar industry under new ownership’, comments CEO J.S. Whang in a written statement. Amtech will focus on its semiconductor and SiC/LED polishing business.

Tempress was founded in 1994 as a European base of operations for Amtech. The company located in Vaassen specializes in diffusion furnaces and PECVD systems. Solaytec was founded in 2010 by research organization TNO and several SMEs. Its high-throughput ALD systems were added to the Amtech group in 2015.
