ASM International is nominating Martin van den Brink for appointment to its supervisory board. The ASML titan, who announced his retirement in November last year, will head up a newly established Technology Committee, which will serve as a sparring partner for the management board and assist the supervisory board in assessing technology and market developments. Van den Brink’s appointment will be submitted to the annual general meeting on 13 May.

ASM reported a record-high revenue of 2.6 billion euros in 2023, up 13 percent at constant currencies, outperforming the wafer equipment market (WFE), which was slightly down last year. Sales dropped in both memory and leading-edge logic/foundry. This was offset by strong growth in the mature-node market, particularly in China. ASM’s silicon carbide epi business also contributed to growth, comfortably meeting the revenue target of 130 million euros in 2023.

In the near term, ASM will have to contend with a lull in the market. Despite an expected recovery of the overall semiconductor market in 2024, the Almere-headquartered equipment manufacturer saw conditions starting to weaken in the second half of 2023. The company expects revenue in the second half of the year to be up compared to the level in the first half year, but “it’s too early to provide more specific guidance for the second half or the full year.”

Looking further ahead, ASM expects to benefit from a rebound in the WFE market and the transition to gate-all-around technology at the upcoming 2nm node. “We remain confident revenue will increase to the forecasted range of 3.0-3.6 billion euros for 2025,” a press release reads.
